Looking for the best zombie games? Take a turn this way, we've got plenty of undead treasures, from Left 4 Dead to Dying Light

What are the best zombie games on PC in 2022? You can hardly take a step on Steam without zombie games grabbing your ankle, so it's a valid question. Don't dismiss the entire genre just because there are too many brainless clones – below, we've rounded up some of the best zombie games to shuffle your way to PC.

    10. State of Decay

Platforms: XBox 360, XBox One e PC

If you've always wondered how you could survive the zombie apocalypse, then State of Decay is the perfect simulator to put your “tactics” into practice!

This is a survival game where the focus is on collecting as many resources as possible to be able to fight the zeds (as zombies are called by the game's characters).

With more than 16 km2 of terrain to explore, the player can choose the location they want to create their “survivors community” (Alexandria style, in The Walking Dead) and, in addition to managing the operation of the place, it is still possible to create strategies to keep the brain eaters away.

State of Decay can be considered a mix between Age of Empires and Resident Evil 2 (a classic!). If you're a fan of zombie and RPG games, then this is a title that shouldn't be missed.

    9. Left 4 Dead 2

    Platforms: Xbox 360 e PC

All the inhabitants of the planet have turned into flesh-eating monsters (aka zombies), with the exception of you and your 3 best friends. What's left to do? Of course, gather the gang and go blasting the endless hordes of the undead!

Basically this is the plot of Left 4 Dead 2, the continuation of the acclaimed zombie game where you can call your friends and get into insane combat in cooperative multiplayer mode.

But I'll warn you, if you're not a fan of "athletic" zombies, then you'll probably be disappointed in L4D2. Unlike the classic undead, here our enemies are real speedsters, in the “Dawn of the Dead” style!

Oh, and let's face it, it's impossible not to despair when the bizarre Witch appears with her huge "nails" running towards us.

    8.Plants vs Zombies

Platforms: Android, iOS, PS3, Nintendo DS, PC… practically all of them!

You must be laughing now and thinking: “look at this guy putting Plants vs. Zombies on a list of zombie games to take your sleep…”

    Make no mistake, my friends!

Is there a scarier scenario than being stuck in the zombie apocalypse and having to depend SOLELY on the little plants in your garden to survive?

In the best tower defense style, we must choose between different types of plants (each one has a “special power”, stay tuned) and protect our house from the endless waves of the undead!

plants vs. Zombies is extremely addictive and, perhaps, it is the desire to not stop playing that will keep you awake, and not exactly the fear.

    7. Dying Light

Platforms: PS4, XBox One e PC

If you passed your cardiac exams at your last routine appointment, then you're ready to jump right into Dying Light. Here's a game that's definitely not for the faint of heart!

In Dying Light you have a VERY large open world and, as you would expect, infested with zombies that… RUN! But don't worry, you'll be able to quickly escape the hungry scavengers with frantic parkour moves!

Basically, the game is divided into two parts: day and night. And it is precisely when night falls that the bug catches! Zombies are much more aggressive in the dark, as well as being the ideal environment to invite more dangerous infected to appear.

The game's online multiplayer mode allows up to 4 players to face this insanity together. Can you and your friends survive to see the first light of morning?

    6. Dead island

    Platforms: PS4, PS3, XBox One, XBox 360 e PC

Developed by Techland – the same guys that made Dying Light – Dead Island has a very similar premise to its “sister game”: explore and survive a multitude of running and jumping zombies!

The game is set in an “open world” style island, where we manage to control four main characters who must carry out a series of missions while waiting for the rescue party to arrive.

If you've played and gamma, then run after Dead Island 2, game released in 2015 and that continues the events seen in the first game.

    5. Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare (DLC)

    Platforms: PS3 and Xbox 360

Red Dead Redemption is not a zombie game, I know, but this DLC game was so successful that many people bought the game exclusively to play Undead Nightmare!

The gameplay is similar to RDR, where we can explore the entire vast open world and interact with almost everything we come across, just with the small detail of HAVING A LOT OF ZOMBIES to kill!

In addition to the undead, the Red Dead Redemption DLC still allows you to capture various supernatural beings, such as unicorns, Bigfoot and even the Chupacabra! Ah, it is still possible to hunt and tame the Four Horses of the Apocalypse, which become an excellent weapon against zombies!

And of course, just like most games, Undead Nightmare gets even more fun in multiplayer mode, when we can gather friends and “bust brains” across the Wild West countryside!

    4. The Walking Dead: A Telltale Games Series

Platforms: PS4, PS3, XBox One, XBox 360, Android, iOS e PC

Inspired by the HQ that also gave rise to the series, this game is actually SEVERAL games. Calm down, I'll explain. The game has 5 episodes that were initially released individually to the public. And you still have the option to buy the episodes you want, you know?

And what makes this different from other TWD games (yes, there are others), you might be asking yourself? The creator of the series, Robert Kirkman, admits that the focus of this game is more on emotions than actions.

This is a point-and-click adventure, where the player has a limited time to choose one of the alternatives presented by the game and, from their choices, make their way through the story.

After the resounding success of this series, Telltale launched The Walking Dead: Michonne, telling the story of this iconic character according to the comics that run between issue #126 and #139.

For those who are tired of unrestrained gunfire and want to dive into a great interactive drama with a focus on the zombie apocalypse, then you will definitely love The Walking Dead: A Telltale Games.

    3. Dead Rising 4

    Platforms: XBox One e PC

Thanks to the Dead Rising franchise our deepest “fantasies” have come true. After all, there's no better feeling than taking out endless hordes of zombies with combos after combos, don't you think?

The game's graphics are very good and the scenery has never been bigger! The explorable world in Dead Rising 4 is massive, reaching far beyond the walls of the Willamette Memorial Megaplex.

But the highlight of the game is undoubtedly the INSANE range of weapons and vehicles that the player can create and use. Combine a swordfish and an anchor (what?!) and create a spectacular Fish Launcher!

Oh, and just as weapons and vehicles can be fully customized, so are the characters! From ballerina tulle to medieval armor, just choose.

In Dead Rising 4 Capcom managed to outdo itself, creating one of the best hack and slash titles to date!

    2. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

Platforms: PS4, XBox One e PC

Everything a true fan of the most famous zombie game franchise in the world was needing! RE7 is the best game the series has released in the last 10 years (yes, Resident Evil 4 was really good!).

Unlike previous editions, in RE7 we always play in first person, which increases the feeling of anxiety and agony even more when opening doors (in the classic style of the series) or when exploring the darkest corners of the terrifying Baker family's home.

The chests, herbs, save points, resource management and the famous puzzles that have made the series iconic over the last 20 years are back in Resident Evil 7!

    1.The Last of Us

    Platforms: PS 3 and PS4

Honestly, I don't know a single living soul who hasn't LOVED The Last of Us! This is simply the BEST zombie game ever! And, without any exaggeration, I venture to say that it is also one of the best games of all time!

The graphics, the gameplay, the plot… Everything is wonderful in this survival game developed by Naughty Dog and released worldwide by Sony.

In The Last of Us we embody two main characters: Joel and Ellie, and we are invited to explore a post-apocalyptic world infested with creatures quite different from those we find in the other games we have listed so far.

Did I mention the graphics? The setting of the game is perfect! Abandoned cities give the ideal air of what it would be like to be in a zombie apocalypse, not to mention the concern to constantly maintain stealth to avoid attracting the attention of enemies, and we're not just talking about zombies...

I have no more words to say how perfect The Last of Us is. Stop reading this article now and go play!
