But if you just want to have fun, play and not think about it, you can still get better by following these 5 easy tips:

  1. do not leak elixir: If you wait 10 elixir while your opponent plays, you are giving them the upper hand. Then he will defeat you more easily.
  2. do not activate the king: With the king activated, your opponent has one more rook to help him defend. It will be harder for you to attack.
  3. Don't drop units just on the bridge: Dropping a unit on the bridge means you can't support it well. So it's easily defended. And it's a missed attack.
  4. Defend yourself on your side of the arena: Your turrets are the best defenders, always defend enemy units with their help. Wait for the units to come to you across the bridge.
  5. Don't overcommit to defense, distance your troops: Do not defend with more units than necessary. And when you're defending, keep them away so they're not easily hit by a spell.

+ A bonus tip

#1 DO NOT leak elixir

Elixir is generated at the same rate for you and your opponent. If you wait for full elixir while he plays units, you're wasting elixir and giving him a big advantage.


When waiting for the opponent's Mega Knight, you gave him 5 elixir for free. (You have 10, the opponent 8, but he also has Mega Knight for 7, which is 15 total.)


You win the game by destroying the towers. You do this with units. And units cost elixir. More elixir = more units = more chance to win!

So when is the right time to play units? If you need to defend, play them right away! If not, drop them as soon as the elixir reaches 9. That way, no elixir is wasted.

#2 Don't activate the king

At the start of the game, only the two princess turrets shoot their units. The king is just watching. But if you attack him, you will make him angry and he will shoot your units too!

The second Barrel does less damage than the first as it is defended by the king.

There is no advantage to activating it, only disadvantages. Also, you would need 20 fireballs to destroy the king completely, so there's no point in doing that.

So aim carefully with your spells. And while we're at it, you need to learn how to use spells well. Don't just throw a fireball at a lone tower, wait for the opponent to throw something and throw that one too!

Casting a spell on a tower alone is usually not a good idea.

It's much better if you can also hit a passing unit.

#3 Don't drop units only on the bridge

If you drop a single unit on the bridge, you won't have enough elixir to support your attack. And with the help of enemy turrets, the opponent is usually able to defend himself easily.

It is very easy to defend a single unit thrown on the bridge. Never play a single ranged unit like this.

Better players will have no problem defending even multiple units. In this example, Musk was used to push the opposite lane.

Wait for the full elixir. Throw units in the back, prepare your attack.

If you're playing a tank deck (Giant, Golem, Lava Hound), increase your pushback slowly from behind. That way you will be unstoppable.

You can drop units on the bridge – bridgespam – as a counterattack of a successful defense.

Yes, you can surprise your opponent by running with a deadly combo on the bridge. But you are counting on luck, once it works, the second time it doesn't. If you want to win more often, it's best not to rely on luck and play it safe.

The opponent was lucky. You played the Inferno Tower at the same time as his Horde. And you didn't have a good spell on hand. Also, you were a little late with the Ice Golem. He took his tower.

I wasn't so lucky this time! You had a cheaper defensive turret and also arrows in your hands. The opponent spent 9 (Pig + Horde) and you defended for 7 (Tesla + Arrows), which means +2 elixir for you. The risk didn't pay off.

If you want to improve, you can't rely on luck, you need to play more patiently and safely. That way, you might not win as fast, but you're less likely to lose.

#4 Defend yourself on your side of the arena

Towers are your best defenders. They shoot fast, do a lot of damage, have a great range and are always there, ready to defend.

Attempting to attack units on the opponent's side is almost always a bad idea. You don't have the help of your turrets and his turrets help you.

A much better way to deal with Exe. Prepare your back defense unit and distract him on the bridge. Clean defense.

With the help of turrets, you can defend enemy units more easily and gain advantages.

Great trick and a way to take advantage of +4 elixir. Defend Horde (5) with Skeletons (1) with minimal damage to your turrets.

Similar defense of a ground unit with the Ice Golem. This gave you +2 elixir advantage.

When your king is activated, it's even better. Especially against Goblin Barrel, Graveyard or Miner.

Using the graveyard with a tank can be fatal, even when the opponent has used Zap to neutralize the accumulated skeletons. Tower down.

When the king is activated, it completely changes the outcome. The tower survived and the defender gained +5 elixir advantage.

#5 Don’t overcommit to defense, distance your troops

Spells are a very important part of this game. They are mainly used in attack. When the opponent attacks you and you place all your units next to each other, he destroys them with a single spell.

Defending Hog with many units. It didn't hit the tower, but it cost 7 elixir.

Same situation defended only with the GobGang. For the price of a Hog hit, you gain +3 elixir advantage.

Try to defend yourself with as few units as possible.

When you see Giant Skeleton, all units you place on the same lane are basically dead.

The Witch alone is enough to handle this, and it's a +1 elixir exchange.

And when you defend, make sure you space your troops away from each other so they can't be killed by a single spell.

Playing the Wizard near the Inferno Tower was a mistake that cost him the tower. He even died faster because of Zap.

While this defense isn't perfect, you were able to prevent most of the damage by moving the Wizard out of Poison's reach.

+ Bonus tip: Don't do BM

BMing means spamming emotes and laughing at your opponent. (Short for Bad Manners.) If you laugh at someone in real life, you are a bad person. The same is true in Clash Royale.

If you spam emotes, you can't focus on your game. Then you will be worse. And even if you win, you might be a better player, but you're a worse person.

Clash Royale is fun, you can play a good game even if you lose. Learn to appreciate when your opponent does something well.

And if you're playing against an overleveled BMer with Royal Giant + eBarbs at level 13, there's always the mute button. Mute emotes, then DESTROY! And then say Good game, well played!
