After several rumors about the possible acquisition of Discord by Microsoft, and soon after an announcement that the company would remain independent but would go public again for investments, Sony, which earlier this year acquired EVO, wasted no time and signed the partnership with the service. The president of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Jim Ryan, who broke the news, said in the statement:

“At PlayStation, we are constantly looking for new ways to connect players around the world, form new friendships, communities and share fun experiences. That's why we're excited to announce our new partnership with Discord, the communication platform used by over 140 million people worldwide.

Together, our teams are working to connect Discord with your social and gaming experience on PlayStation Network. Leveraging shared experiences in games is what we do, so we're excited to start our journey together with one of the most popular communication platforms.”

The text did not mention the amount that was invested, saying only that it was a minority investment. For comparison, the last time Discord went public for investment, the company raised $100 million. The communication platform is expected to arrive on PlayStation consoles early next year, and in the coming months we will have new information revealed.
