Choosing a leader to follow will mostly come down to which of their “reasons” subscribes to the player the most, with each character holding a different value that will spearhead the effort to reshape Shin Megami Tensei 3's world. The trailer first highlights Chiaki Hayasaka, whose motif is known as Yosuga. She wants to transform the world into a paradise “ruled by the strong and worthy”, forming an elitist society that would eradicate the weak and uplift the powerful. Meanwhile, there's the Musubi reasoning, which is led by Isamu Nitta. His belief revolves around isolation, allowing everyone to create their own personal paradise shaped by their own desires, without interference from others.

Finally, there's Hikawa, who agrees with Shijima's reasoning. His ideology revolves around the idea of emotionless balance, removing passion and individuality from the world in an effort to bring about harmony without conflict, destruction or violence. The player will be asked which of the three ideologies they believe in the most throughout the game and, as the trailer shows, the conversations they have with NPCs will affect how the story unfolds.

Whatever the reason they've sided with the entire game will lead to several different endings, with players able to see the results of their allegiance and its effect on Nocturne's world. They'll be able to find out what the consequences of each choice will be when the remaster launches next month, bringing the cult classic game to a host of new platforms. It's a good time for the iconic Shin Megami title to return, considering the franchise will be debuting its last release this year, with Shin Megami Tensei 5 slated for 2021. Currently, little is known about the upcoming title other than its title and the fact of it will come to the Nintendo Switch.

Shin Megami Tensei 3 Nocturne HD Remaster will arrive on PC, PlayStation 4 and Switch on May 25.
