In December, a League of Legends MMO was unveiled by Riot Games Vice President of IP and Entertainment Greg Street with little fanfare or preparation. The company later confirmed that it was real, giving players more reason to look forward to it as the franchise grows. The project will likely take a few years. Now, we know for sure it's starting development, as Riot has started hiring for the League of Legends MMO.

On a new recruiting page, Riot shares that development has already begun and that it needs a bigger team. After all, developing an MMO is a big job.

In a more general sense, Riot wants candidates with experience in a variety of roles. Of course, those with experience working with MMOs are welcome. Riot is also looking for new developers well focused on gameplay engineering, game design and UX, game art, and game production.

With the amount of knowledge that has been developed for the game, it is clear that a League of Legends MMO will have a lot to enjoy. The RPG aspect should also serve the world of League of Legends well.

Street also mentioned that fans are hoping for an MMO extension of the popular MOBA. Fulfilling your wish is a goal for everyone involved. For now, we can just wait and see how the League of Legends MMO takes shape over the next few years.

While we still have no idea whether World of Runeterra will be the final name for the League of Legends MMO, these hiring procedures are extremely positive for us gamers. As Riot Games continues to expand its reach via League of Legends and the other games, we can at least say that there will be more competition in the MMO space.
