THE PS5 HAS A KNOWLEDGE FOR BEING INCREDIBLY NOISY WHEN SPINNING A DISK, BUT ITS FIRST MAJOR UPDATE ADDRESS THIS ON A LARGE SCALE.
The first major firmware update for the PlayStation 5 has already been released and has introduced a few more fixes than the extensive patch notes initially suggested. One fix appears to involve the annoying noise that the PS5's disk drive often makes, with several users reporting that it is much quieter after installing the April system update.
The PS5 would routinely spin its disc drive if a disc is inserted, whether or not the disc in question is in use. While there's no official word on why or how often the PS5 would do this, some users have reported hearing a very loud spinning noise every 30 minutes or so. The latest PS5 update doesn't seem to get rid of this completely, but at least the noise seems to have been greatly reduced.

“It kind of starts to spin, but then stops abruptly and continues to spin for the same amount of time as before, but at a much, much lower spin speed, so it’s not nearly as noticeable,” said one user. from Reddit wrote on the PS5 subreddit.
Push Square also reported the same, saying that while the disk is still spinning, overall operation is drastically quieter than before. It's still unclear why the PS5 needs to do this, especially in cases where the disk in the drive isn't being used. But at least your immersion will no longer be interrupted consistently.
Other fixes in the PS5 update include the addition of external storage options for PS5 games, expanded HDR options for games that aren't supported, and more.
