NINTENDO'S LONG NEW TRAILER FOR NEW POKEMON SNAP PROVIDES MORE DETAILS ABOUT HOW RESEARCH LEVELS WORK AND MUCH MORE, LAUNCHED APRIL 30, 2021.

Nintendo has shared a lengthy trailer for the new Pokémon Snap. The six-minute video gives us a closer look at the upcoming photography game ahead of its release later this month, delving into the general play cycle and detailing some of the new mechanics you'll find.

The new Pokémon Snap takes place in the Lental region, which is made up of many different islands, from dense jungles to pristine beaches. As in the original N64 game, you'll travel through these environments aboard a rail vehicle, taking pictures of the various Pokémon you encounter along the way.

The overall goal of the new Pokémon Snap is to help Professor Mirror unravel the mystery of the Illumina phenomenon, which is causing Pokémon and the vegetation around the Lental region to glow. After each expedition, Professor Mirror will judge the photos you've taken and give them a score.

As detailed in the overview video, one of the new elements in the New Pokémon Snap is research levels. Each island in the game has a research level that you can improve by shooting Pokémon. This in turn will cause new Pokemon to spawn around the island and open up alternate routes through the level.

The overview trailer also gives us a glimpse of a new area: a shadowy forest that appears to be home to some Ghost Pokemon. You can watch the full trailer above. New Pokémon Snap will be released for Nintendo Switch on April 30th. To learn more about the game, be sure to check out our New Pokémon Snap pre-order guide.

In other Pokemon news, Pokemon Go is celebrating the launch of the Switch spin-off with a new Pokemon Snap event running from April 29 to May 2. During this event, Pokemon found in the Slow region will spawn more often than usual, and you'll get your first chance to catch Shiny Smeargle. There will also be snapshot-based research tasks and a new camera item for your avatar.
