Outriders is a shooter that wants to make you feel powerful, and that's by making the best of the game's four classes.
Once you're undecided on your class choice, you'll want to use unique abilities and class buffs to ensure you're just as fearsome as Enoch's deadliest foes.
While your character can't change classes at will, there's plenty of flexibility in the class abilities you unlock throughout the game, so make sure you take advantage of that for whatever suits your playstyle.

Choose your way
In Outriders, you start with a tutorial showing humans arriving on the planet Enoch to begin colonization efforts, which quickly goes horribly wrong. This is where you also become Altered and acquire new superhuman abilities.
Only after the tutorial is over, however, do you personally decide which powers you've actually gained, and that's broken down into four different classes.
Each has their own unique playstyle made up of different unlockable class skills and a class tree with additional passive skills. The four classes available in Outriders are:
- Technomancer : Long range, support, uses gadgets
- Pyromancer : Medium range, magic, uses fire
- cheater : Close range, hit and run, manipulate space-time
- Devastating : Short range, tank, lets you hold your position
Can you change classes in Outriders?
It is important to note that once you have made your choice your character will remain in this class for the entire game, if you are not happy you will have to create another character.
Fortunately, you can create multiple characters on your account (six in total). If you change your mind, you have the option to skip the tutorial to get right into the action.
In addition, there is a stash where items can be shared between classes, offering a degree of progress to be shared between them.
Regardless of class, you'll still have access to the same range of weapons, from sniper rifles to submachine guns and shotguns. While some classes augment these weapons in different ways (the Technomancer can see ranged weapon damage increase by 15%, for example), each has a lot of freedom to customize their abilities to suit their playstyle.
For example, class skills can offer buffs, deal class-specific damage, or inflict status effects on enemies. While you can unlock a total of eight abilities, you can only equip up to three at any given time.
You will also gain class points that can be spent in your class tree, which will develop your class with passive skills.
Class trees are divided into three branches made up of small and large nodes, granting bonuses to your character's attributes or larger percentage-based bonuses, affecting other abilities respectively.
While each branch is unique to each class, they are essentially grouped by weapon damage, survivability, or Anomaly power.
With so many nodes to upgrade, it's not actually possible to fill all the trees by the time you reach your character's max level, so you're encouraged to adapt the class tree to your playstyle.
The good news is that you can reset your class tree and redistribute class points at any time and at no additional cost.
Best classes for solo and co-op play
While there is no best class and each class is designed in such a way that it is possible to complete solo play - there are definite advantages over one another, although this is also in part due to your playstyle and experience.
Also, be aware that co-op is limited to just three players, so it's not possible to have a fully balanced team of all four classes.
Here are our best class recommendations based on your playstyle and preferences:
- For the ground: We believe Trickster is the best character to play solo, as he has some of the most fun agile skills to get up close and personal with and really enhance the game's aggressive combat type, as well as interrupt and slow down enemies to make a quick escape. Kills not only heal you, but you also receive a portion of the shield. Solo play feels best when you can get up close, which is why the Devastator class is also a great choice.
- For co-op: Each class can contribute a lot to a team. The Trickster's time bubble can protect teammates by slowing enemies and bullets, while the Ravager acts as a tank to assault enemies. But Pyromancer and Technomancer feel better in co-op, where the former can mark enemies, making them more susceptible to damage, while the latter is made for support, being the only class that can heal other team members. Its long-range buffs will also appeal to players who prefer to stay behind carefully and aim for their crosshairs.
Technomancer might not be all that appealing for solo play, but if you're looking to play co-op, it's really worth having a character available. We recommend always having one Technomancer on a team while the other two balance with different classes.
In other words, ideally, your three-person teams would consist of a Technomancer, Pyromancer, and Ravager, or a Technomancer, Rogue, and Ravager.

The Technomancer is a support class that excels at long range, which can heal both teammates and themselves. Using the Anomaly's powers, they are able to use items to interrupt and inflict damage on enemies while taking them down from afar.
The class features that come with the Technomancer include 15% increased ranged weapon damage, 15% increased skill leech, and 15% increased weapon leech. Their leech abilities allow them to heal only from harmful enemies, which also heals teammates.Read also

Technomancer class skills that can be unlocked are:
- Waste : Throw a proximity device. The blast deals damage and interrupts the abilities of enemies caught within the blast radius (unlocked at level 1)
- Torre Cryo : Place an automated turret that deals damage and inflicts Freeze on enemies. Tower health slowly depletes over time and when it takes damage (unlocked at level 3)
- Pain Launcher : Place a missile launcher and bomb the area in front of you. Each missile deals damage per hit and interrupts enemy abilities (unlocked at level 4)
- Toxic Ammo : Fill your current weapon's magazine with bullets infused with toxic decay to enemies. Enemies within a small radius of the primary target also take Toxic and 50% damage. Skill lasts until you reload or switch weapons (unlocked at level 6)
- destruction tool : Conjure a rocket launcher that can block enemies or a weapon that deals damage per shot. The skill will remain active until all ammo is used up or until you switch weapons (unlocked at level 9)
- correction wave : Unleash your energy to restore 33% health for all players and 50% health for your turrets regardless of distance (unlocked at level 13)
- cold wave: Drop a gadget to unleash cold waves on all enemies within a large radius around you (unlocked at level 17) Toxic Tower: Place an automated turret that deals damage and toxic damage to enemies. Tower health slowly depletes over time and when it takes damage (unlocked at level 22)
As the Technomancer is a support class, they're not the most ideal class for solo players, especially if you can't use their abilities to heal teammates, while their emphasis on long-range seems against the aggressive combat encouraged in the game.
However, his abilities can really complement his firepower, whether that's freezing enemies in place or weakening them with toxic damage. Once you unlock the fixation wave, it will be an essential skill to equip when you need to pop an emergency heal for the entire team.
Pyromancer Skills and Playstyle
The Pyromancer is a mid-range class that uses fire to damage the opponent, healing themselves as their enemies burn.
Class traits include an additional 10% Anomaly power, while marking enemies with abilities will damage them for 15 seconds. Killing a marked target heals the Pyromancer for 24% of maximum health.
The Pyromancer class abilities that can be unlocked are:
- Heat wave : Type: Summons a wave of fire that deals damage and burns all enemies in its path (unlocked at level 1)
- feed the flames : Pull an enemy towards you, dealing damage, draining Health and turning them to ash (unlocked at Level 3)
- heat pump : Select an enemy to burn, interrupt, and damage. If killed while still under the skill's effect, the enemy will explode, dealing damage in a large radius (unlocked at level 4)
- Overheating : Deals small damage to all enemies within a large radius and interrupts their abilities. Enemies hit by Burn take additional damage and the Burn will be consumed (unlocked at level 6)
- Volcanic Ammunition : Fill your current weapon's depot with Anomaly-infused bullets that turn to fire in a small radius and pierce targets, dealing damage to enemies behind them. Skill lasts until you reload or switch weapons (unlocked at level 9)
- ash explosion : Create an anomaly blast to inflict Ash on all enemies in a large radius around you (unlocked at level 13)
- Energy Beam : Fires a beam of energy that deals damage that benefits from 125% Status Power, causing burning and slowing (unlocked at level 17)
- Eruption : Create a volcanic eruption under the targeted enemy, dealing damage to them and all enemies within a small radius around the target (unlocked at level 22)
Pyromancer is like the caster of the party, given the Anomaly's extra power, although it does involve having to align your abilities while juggling the rest of the battlefield.
They aren't the ideal solo class either, so consider having them work their magic in co-op when you can get the support of a Technomancer or Devastator to attack your enemies.
Trickster Abilities and Playstyle
Closest to an assassin class that excels at close range and at the same time agile, the Rogue may require more skill to use, but is one of the most fun, using hit-and-run tactics to deliver deadly blows up close before attacking. slow down your enemies as you flee.
Class features include 5% additional max health, an active shield that deals 5% damage, while each close-range kill heals 20% of your max health and grants 12% shield.
The Rogue class abilities that can be unlocked are:
- Temporal Blade : Stall and slice enemies in front of you, dealing damage and slowing and stunting all targets (unlocked at Level 1)
- slow trap : Create a space-time anomaly that slows enemies and projectiles for 10 seconds (unlocked at level 3)
- hunt the prey : Select an enemy and teleport behind them to receive a shield bonus (unlocked at level 4)
- Twisted Ammo : Fill your weapon's magazine with Anomaly-infused bullets that deal significantly more damage to enemies. Skill lasts until you reload or switch weapons (unlocked at level 6)
- Blade Swirl : Create a whirlwind of Anomaly blades that damage and interrupt enemies within a small radius on each hit. Skill lasts 5 seconds (unlocked at level 9)
- borrowed time : Receive a shield and mark your location for 28 seconds. Activating the skill again will bend space-time and teleport you back to the marked location (level 13 unlocked)
- Temporal Knife : Throw a temporal knife at an enemy. The blade ricochets between a maximum of 5 enemies within a small radius, dealing damage and marking them. All marked targets will be inflicted with Slow and for 10 seconds the first damage you do will be doubled (unlocked at level 17)
- Shock wave : Create a shockwave that suspends enemies in the air, rendering them unable to fight for 3,5 seconds and leaving them weak (unlocked at level 22)
Slow Trap is an essential skill for slowing enemies for you and your teammates to kill, or slowing incoming bullets as you move to another vantage point.
Hunting prey is also great for just dodging behind enemy lines to take out an enemy from behind, though trading it for time might be better later on if you prefer to have an escape route ahead of time when things get tricky.
However, with the Rogue's shield and ability to heal from close range kills, the risk of throwing yourself into the action can be extremely rewarding when you manage to get enough kills to regain lost health.
Devastator Abilities and Playstyle
The game's tank, the Devastator takes the lead, covering teammates while absorbing oncoming fire and is perfect for anyone just looking to get stuck at close range for maximum damage.
Class features include 15% additional max health and 30% increased armor, while each close-range kill heals them for 24% of their max health – all the more reason to get close and head to town.
The Devastator class abilities that can be unlocked are:
- Earthquake : Release a shockwave to deal damage and block all enemies in front of you (unlocked at level 1)
- G : Fortify yourself against 65% of damage taken for 8 seconds (unlocked at level 3)
- Gravitational Leap : Leap into the air and strike your targets from above, dealing damage and blocking enemies within a small radius of the area you select (unlocked at Level 4)
- Reflect Bullets : Create a barrier that captures all enemy projectiles and accumulates damage. After 10 seconds of skill activation, accumulated damage is reflected back to enemies in front of you. The barrier also protects against melee attacks, reflecting some damage back (unlocked at level 6)
- Torture : Select a target to interrupt your abilities, bleed, and deal damage. If the damage is lethal, the enemy will be tortured, creating a zone that grants a powerful bonus to armor and health regeneration to all allies in range for 9 seconds (unlocked at level 9)
- Tremor : Create a series of explosions around you, each dealing damage and draining the health of enemies in a medium radius around you (unlocked at level 13)
- boulderdash : Dash to interrupt all enemies in your path and deal damage. At the end of the charge, you will break the ground and deal damage to all enemies in a small radius around you (unlocked at level 17)
- Infinite mass : Wrap a target in stone, causing bleeding and pulling enemies in a small radius towards the initial target. The stone will then explode, dealing damage to all enemies in a small radius around the target (unlocked at level 22)
The Devastator will already have ample health and armor to withstand enemy damage, but abilities like Golem will make them feel even more unstoppable.
This can slow them down if you're trying to attack the enemy, but that's where gravitational jumping comes in handy for jumping in the air and picking a target to attack from above.
Use the class tree to adjust your abilities to be as aggressive and defensive as you like, but if there's a group of enemies in your way, they should be able to attack with no problem.
