If you've been hit by an unwanted PS5 error code, this is what you need to do next

PS5 error codes can crop up every now and then, especially as Sony's next-gen machine is still shy of its first birthday.

Still, we all appreciate how difficult (not to say expensive) it is to buy a PS5 in the first place, so it's definitely not fun when an annoying PS5 error code prevents you from enjoying your hard-won games.

New game releases are typically to blame when it comes to PS5 error codes, but they can also happen randomly and seemingly without cause.

Regardless, we're following each one as it occurs and doing our best to explain why they're happening and give advice on potential fixes, so read on to see if the PS5 error code you're encountering is something fixable, or, instead just a simple test of patience.

    PS5 error code CE-109506-1

PS109506 error code CE-1-5 is preventing players from connecting to PSN as noted on our apparently down PSN servers, but as of this writing, we are not aware of a fix or even a reason for the code.

We've searched Sony's website thoroughly and it's not listed there, so it's likely an emerging issue. As of this writing, PlayStation has yet to recognize the issue, but considering how widespread it appears to be, that will likely change soon.

"Unable to connect to the server."

These are PSN connection error messages, so the first thing to do is check the PlayStation Network status page to make sure everything is up and running.

If there is no maintenance or downtime in progress, restart the PS5 and set the wireless connection settings again, making sure the router is within range or switching to a wired connection if possible.

If the problem persists, turn off the modem and router for 5 minutes, restart and update the router's firmware, if available. If the problem is still not resolved, there is likely to be a temporary connection failure, so wait and try again later.

"Unable to connect to the server."

This is another connection error message, but this time possibly related to the servers of the individual game you are playing.

If the PlayStation Network status page linked above confirms that everything is currently working, check the game's developer website or social media channels to see if they have a specific issue. Again, this is likely to be a temporary connection failure, so if you can't resolve it, wait and try again later.

    "Install the latest system software."

This PS5 error code means that the system software is not up to date, so connect to the Internet and follow the instructions to update to the latest version.

If you are unable to connect your console online, you can also download and install the latest system software to a USB drive via a computer or update it using a game disc. For more information on this process, see the PS5 System Software Update Official Website.

"Something went wrong with this game or application."

Several players are getting this PS5 error code and unfortunately the initial prognosis does not look good. Some are getting this with a specific PS5 game while others are getting the error with every PS5 title they try.

While Sony has yet to officially comment on the issue, several people are reporting that they have spoken to customer service and been told they will need to return the hardware for replacement. If you are getting this error and it persists, you will need to contact PlayStation Customer Service for more details.

    "The account information is incorrect."

If you are receiving this PS5 error code, the PlayStation Network account login information you are providing does not match records held by Sony.

Double check that you are entering the correct email address and password (case sensitive), and if you are sure the information you are entering is correct, you will need to contact customer service to reset your password.
