Users must meet the requirements.

On November 10, 2021, Roblox officially launched its spatial voice chat for everyone over 13 who has successfully completed the age verification process.

What was originally created and developed as a beta in February 2021 has slowly been rolled out across the site over the last few months until now, in November 2021, having reached its final product. To learn how you can participate in Roblox space chat, read on below.

Observation:  All users must be 13 years of age or older to enable voice chat. Users must also verify their age by submitting a photo ID on a portal provided by Roblox.

If users do not meet any of these requirements, all voice chat features will likely be disabled and restricted in their accounts.

checking your age

With nearly half of Roblox's player base consists of users over the age of 13, how to properly manage the security of younger users remains a concern.

In a blog post, Roblox stated that the spatial voice feature will only be accessible to those who have verified that they are over 13 years old. In doing so, Roblox believes they are protecting the most impressionable users on the platform from potentially inappropriate content or experiences inappropriate for a younger audience.

To verify your age on Roblox you will need the Roblox app as you need access to a phone camera. Users can simply take a picture of their driver's license, passport or ID card, which will be scanned by Roblox's photo processor for authentication purposes. After this scan is complete, users will be asked to take a selfie to prove “liveliness” and “likeness”.

Photos from a camera roll will not be allowed due to its more static nature, so be prepared to put your face photo in! Roblox uses “liveliness” to ensure you are a living and breathing person, no matter how silly it may sound, and “similarity” to verify that you are the same person who appears in the uploaded image. The entire photo shoot process shouldn't take more than a few minutes.

Activating voice chat

After verifying your age, voice chat can be turned on and off in the setting menu. On PC, look for the gear icon in the upper-right corner, and from the drop-down menu, click  settings . In the settings, find the tab Privacy in the menu on the left.

On mobile, find and click the circle with three dots in the lower right corner. Then you will need to scroll until you see the gear icon. Once you've done that, click on it and then on Privacy. Clicking this tab will open your privacy options on PC and mobile.

Under the title  beta features,  you should see the text  enable beat-voice chat and a small button. Clicking this button will activate the beat-voice chat, when completed, the button will change from gray to green.

At the moment, there doesn't seem to be a way to toggle voice chat from an Xbox, so you need to have access to the Roblox app or website to turn it on or off.

Voice chat returns

So far, there has been no official statement on what can and cannot be said in voice chat. Cursing does not currently receive any form of punishment or censure for Roblox, this will likely change, however, as the kinks continue to be resolved.

Where to use voice chat

Whether you consider it unfortunate or not, not every Roblox experience will feature voice chat support. The decision is up to the individual game developers whether or not they want to allow it. If you're looking for a game to try out voice chat, Mic Up seems to be a favorite right now.
