In what is a first surprise for GTA 5, the game is topping the online viewing charts, beating the challenges of League of Legends and Fortnite.

The audience on Twitch is sometimes difficult to control. A new game will appear on the scene and will interrupt the viewing patterns for a while, then disappear as the top 4 twitch games tend to return to the top positions. Games like Fortnite, League of Legends, Minecraft, and last year's Call of Duty: Warzone, have established themselves as the most watched games on Twitch with steady viewership month after month. While these games often vie for first place, March saw a new number 1 and surprisingly, Grand Theft Auto 5 finds itself at the top of Twitch for the first time, highlighting the game's incredible staying power.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is one of the biggest hits in video game history, with over 140 million copies sold and still hovering on the Steam sales charts in 2021. The game offers a little something for everyone. As a single player sandbox with a huge world and memorable characters, the game delivers. But where it really takes off is online. GTA Online has extended the life of the game, turning the GTA experience into a never-ending story created entirely by the online community. This online world is probably the driving force behind the rise of Twitch.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is one of the biggest hits in video game history, with over 140 million copies sold and still hovering on the Steam sales charts in 2021. The game offers a little something for everyone. With single player options with a huge world and memorable characters, the game delivers. But where it really takes off is online. GTA Online has extended the life of the game, turning the GTA experience into a never-ending story created entirely by the online community. This online world is probably the driving force behind the rise of Twitch.

According to StreamElements, a service that tracks online viewing data, Grand Theft Auto 5 reached 181 million viewing hours in the month of March, enough to take the top spot by a consolidated margin. In second place was League of Legend 40 million behind GTA 5, with Fortnite 70 million hours behind the Rockstar game. This marks the first time that GTA 5 has held the top spot on the monthly hours chart and is likely being spurred by the NoPixel RPG server frequented by a number of top-tier streamers.

These RPG servers have become quite popular, though making them last is another story. In early 2021, OfflineTV's Rust server was generating a lot of buzz and the game exploded in popularity. While the OfflineTV server is still running, the audience has dropped. The GTA 5 RP server will increase game viewing as long as streamers can provide quality content, so time will tell how long GTA 5 will remain at the top of the charts.

But regardless of how long Grand Theft Auto 5 has been at the top of the Twitch charts, the fact that an eight-year-old game can do that is proof that GTA Online has one of the most incredible staying powers of any game released so far. the moment.

Grand Theft Auto Online is now available for PC, PS3 PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
