EA has released new details about Madden NFL 22, its upcoming football game.

The biggest news, though not entirely unexpected, is that the cover of Madden NFL 22 will feature Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes. We wouldn't agree that it's an "iconic cape" as EA claims, although it's cool to look at and even better than Aiden Pearce's hat.

Covering aside, EA has unveiled the game atmosphere feature that should bring the game's crowds to life, especially when one team has the home advantage. NFL 22 will also feature “Star-Driven AI”, powered by real-world player data, which will change the team and player AI to echo that of real teams. Franchise Mode and The Yard are also back, both last seen in NFL 21.

So is it worth having? It might be. We got our hands on Madden NFL 21 last year and concluded that while it was "perhaps the greatest of all time", it wasn't different enough from the NFL 20 to be an essential purchase. So for now, we're firmly on the fence.

Madden NFL 22 will be released on August 20, 2021 on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Google Stadia.
