At the beginning of the year, players from dark souls watched all PvP servers in all three games shut down due to a remote code execution security vulnerability.

Not only was this disappointing for Souls fans, but concerns also arose over whether Elden Ring's multiplayer would be available at launch due to this issue, which many speculated would also extend to FromSoftware's latest release.

However, the studio shared an update on Twitter and confirmed that Elden Ring's PvP will be stable at launch and a fix for this issue is in the works. “We want to thank the entire Dark Souls community and players who have reached out to us directly to voice their concerns and offer solutions,” he says. FromSoftware.

“Thanks to you, we have identified the cause and are working to fix the issue.” Next, FromSoftware states that it “has ensured that the necessary measures are in place” for the release of Elden Ring to ensure that the game is not affected.

This vulnerability with the Dark Souls titles was particularly nasty, as it effectively allowed malicious players to take over another user's PC through the PvP system.

With Elden Ring now less than two weeks away, FromSoftware will focus on ensuring the game's security is up to par and testing it properly for Dark Souls, Dark Souls 2, and Dark Souls 3.

Because of this, the studio will not reopen the PvP servers for any of the Dark Souls games until the release of Elden Ring. A full schedule will be shared closer to the launch of the online service restoration.

This is fantastic news as it has been a concern of the Elden Ring community for weeks that the game's launch would be severely hampered by this security issue.

And while you won't be able to play Dark Souls PvP until after February 25th, you can at least sleep soundly at night and know that PvP should run smoothly on consoles and PC in the open world of The Lands Between.
