Best Pokemon in Pokemon Go

While the below 'mon are all solid picks, the basics still remain: You need to make sure they have decent stats from Attack , Defense e Vigor IV , evaluating it. Also make sure to spend time turning it on to its fullest potential before letting it loose in the world.

Here are our picks of the best based on everything from stats, max CP potential, weaknesses, our own experiences with the game, and how well they'll actually do in battle.

The best Pokemon Go attackers

Historically, Dragon-type Pokémon were prioritized as the best attackers, and that remains the same to this day. There are plenty of them here, from Rayquaza to Dragonite, as well as a few legendaries, including Mewtwo and Reshiram.

3: Rayquaza

The Pokémon Company / Bulbapedia

Rayquaza is a formidable addition to any strike and battle team.

  • Fast movement: dragon's tail
  • Billing movement: Indignation

As far as dragons go, you won't get much better than Rayquaza . Dragon-type moves are rarely resisted, making it a great versatile attacker with Dragon Tail and Outrage.

The 'mon can also be utilized as a great Flying-type attacker if needed, thanks to its double typing .

2: Deoxys

The Pokemon Company

Sometimes speed is the key to victory.

  • Fast movement: Zen headbutt
  • Load movement: Hyper Beam

Although its Defense and Stamina are pretty bad, this incredibly rare Mythical earns its spot on the list for having the higher attack stats of any creature in the game.

This sits at a flawless 345 in its normal form, and a surprising 414 in its attack form . Zen Headbutt and Hyper Beam moves reign supreme.

1 Mewtwo

The Pokemon Company

Mewtwo is the most iconic Psychic-type Pokémon of all time.

  • Fast movement: Confus√£o
  • Load movement: Psystrike

As expected, the legendary creature OG Mewtwo remains the top choice for attackers in Pokemon Go.

Using a combination of Confusion and Psysstrike legacy moves, it's a powerhouse, especially with a CP that reaches more than 4.000 . Catch a Shadow Mewtwo and it will cause 20% more damage .

As always, you should take typing into account. The legendary Water-type Kyogre might appear on our list, for example, but it will always be impacted when facing a strong Electric-type or Grass-type opponent.

This cute Normal-type can fend off the best of the best with insanely high stamina.
  • Fast movement: Zen headbutt
  • Load Movement: dazzling shine

As far as the best defenders go, Blissey remains the best choice in Pokemon Go for any trainer. He has a ridiculous amount of Stamina (496) and a decent Defense stat (169) , making it perfect to leave in gyms as it will simply do sponge damage.

However, one downside of Blissey is that you will likely struggle to find much use for it out of that scenario.

Unlike many of the best Pokemon Go attackers we've featured, the best defenders are usually not legendary. That means you should find it easier to take one with decent stats and level it up with a high CP.

Best Pokemon for PvP (Go Battle League)

There are three main leagues to enjoy in Pokemon Go Battle League: the Great League, the Ultra League, and the Master League. They rotate throughout each season, with only one appearing at a time, often alongside special cups like the Retro Cup or Kanto Cup.

Each league has different restrictions, the main one being the CP cap. The Great League has a cap of 1500 CP, the Ultra League has a cap of 2500 CP, and the Master League has no cap. This means that the best Pokémon for each League can be very different.

big league

With a CP cap of only 1500, you won't find many Legendaries in the Grand League meta. Check out our top three recommendations below.

  • Fast movement: Bubble
  • Loaded Moves: Hydro Pump e Ice Beam

Azumarill has long been considered one of the best competitors in the Great League thanks to his impressive bulk and a diverse moveset that can help balance out his weaknesses. It's an expensive beast to call, but worth it if you can afford it.

Galar's Stunfisk

  • Fast movement:  lama shot
  • Loaded Moves: Rock Slide e Earthquake

Galarian Stunfisk isn't the easiest monster to catch, but if you can, he proves to be a surprisingly excellent fighter in the Great League. A unique ground/steel type means it is resistant to most major Great League types and is particularly good at beating Fairy types.

  • Fast movement:  Dragon breath
  • Loaded moves:  Sky Attack e Dragon Pulse

It takes 400 Candy to evolve Swablu into Altaria, but it's definitely worth the effort as it has impressive, massive damage capability. Altaria's only major flaw here is its double weakness to Ice-type attacks, but other than that, it's pretty hard to take down.

With a higher CP cap of 2500, the Ultra League is where the big players start to emerge, and Legendaries are now more common - as long as they stay below the cap. See our best recommendations below.

  • Fast movement: Block
  • Load movements: Flash Cannon e Hyper Beam

Steel-type Legendary is arguably the best choice for the Ultra League as it has an incredible Defense stat and an insane amount of type resistances so it can take a lot of hits. Meanwhile, Lock-On has one of the fastest power generation in the game, allowing Registeel to unleash some key charge moves.

  • Fast movement:  powder snow
  • Load movements:  Weather Ball (Ice) and Energy Ball

Abomasnow is one of the best players in the Ultra League, thanks to his ability to take down some of the biggest threats like Swampert, Togekiss, and Giratina (Altered Forme). It has a lot of weaknesses, but it makes up for it with high volume and lots of powerful moves that can be spammy.

  • Fast movement:  lama shot
  • Load movements:  Hydro Cannon e Earthquake

Swampert is a complete fighter that acts as a brilliant counter to the Fire and Steel types that dominate the Ultra League. Even better, his Water/Earth typing means he has only one weakness, Grass. With the Hydro Cannon and Earthquake moves, he is unstoppable.

Master League

In Master League, all CP restrictions are removed, which means you'll need XL Candy's help to win.

  • Fast movement: Dragon breath
  • Load movements: Iron Head e Draco Meteor

Dialga is considered by many to be the reigning champion of the Master League, and it's not hard to see why. He has an incredible amount of type resistances and a lineup of very powerful moves, including Dragon Breath, Iron Head, and Draco Meteor that make him a force to be reckoned with.

  • Fast movement: dragon's tail
  • Load movements: Sky Attack e Aeroblast

The Legendary Lugia is incredibly bulky and has great moves, making it one of the top contenders in the Master League, especially if it has Sky Attack under its belt. Lugia is great as a counter for Kyogre, Groudon, Dragonite and Togekiss as well.

  • Fast movement: Dragon breath
  • Load movements: Wild Charge e Crunch

Melmetal is the most desirable mythical creature in Pokémon Go, thanks to its performance in the Master League. With high volume, high damage output, and a massive amount of type resistances, it's incredibly difficult to take down. Any Master League team will benefit from a Melmetal.
