PlayStation 5 owners looking for a gaming monitor should want a display that is not only compatible with the console, but one that can take advantage of all the PS5's features.

The PS5 supports 4k content at up to 120 fps with an HDMI 2.1 input, and while HDMI 2.1 displays are starting to become more popular, you can still find 4k @ 60Hz displays with HDMI 2.0 support that would be great for gaming.

Unlike the Xbox Series X, the PS5 doesn't support 1440p content, so it's best to choose the 4k option unless you want 1080p resolution with a higher refresh rate.

Best 4k monitor for PS5: Gigabyte M32U

Gigabyte M32U VIEW 8,7 Games

Size 32" Resolution 3840 x 2160 Max refresh rate  144 Hz pixel type  IPS Variable refresh rate  FreeSync

The Gigabyte M32U is the best 4k gaming monitor for PS5 we've tested. It's an impressive overall monitor that offers a lot of features and you can use it during the day for work and plug in your PS5 at night for some games.

It's well built and the stand offers tilt, height and swivel adjustments for good ergonomics, but you can't rotate it to portrait mode.

It's great for gaming because it has exceptional motion handling at its maximum refresh rate of 144Hz and at 60Hz. It has low input lag for a responsive gaming experience but if you have to make sure it is updated with the latest firmware to get the best experience possible.

Also, there are two HDMI 2.1 inputs, which is great for playing 4k games up to 120 fps, but as it doesn't support the full 48Gbps bandwidth of HDMI 2.1, it's limited to 4:2:0 chroma instead of 4. :4:4, so some text may look blurry, but it doesn't affect the image quality.

It also supports HDR10, but it doesn't add much because it has an IPS panel with a low contrast ratio, so blacks look gray when viewed in the dark, and the illuminated local dimming feature is terrible and causes blooming around bright objects.

Although it displays a wide range of colors, it is not clear in HDR. If that doesn't bother you, it's one of the best PS5 monitors we've tested.

Gigabyte M28U VIEW PRICE

Size 28" Resolution 3840 x 2160 Max refresh rate  144 Hz pixel type  IPS Variable refresh rate  FreeSync

If you simply prefer something smaller, check out the Gigabyte M28U. It has a worse response time at 60 Hz than the Gigabyte M32U and has worse ergonomics because you can't rotate it, but the smaller screen results in higher pixel density and sharper images.

It's also great for gaming because it has the same fantastic response time at its maximum refresh rate and is great at 60Hz.

It has the same HDMI 2.1 inputs as the larger version, so it supports PS4 120k @ 5 fps signals and also has low input lag. While not the brightest monitor, it does have good reflection handling if you want to use it in a bright room, but blacks look gray due to the low contrast if you use it in a dark room.

If you're looking for the best monitor for PS5, you can't go wrong with the M32U, but if you want a 28-inch screen instead of a 32-inch, then take a look at the M28U.

Best big monitor for PS5: LG OLED48C1

LG OLED48C1 SEE 8,8 Games

Size 48" Resolution 3840 x 2160 Max refresh rate  120 Hz pixel type  OLED Variable refresh rate  FreeSync

The LG OLED48C1 is the best PS5 monitor you can get on a big screen. Unlike most regular monitors, this TV has a large 48-inch screen with a 16:9 aspect ratio, so you can play most games without having the black bars you'd see on ultra-wide monitors. We tested it as a monitor because it is advertised as such and it offers better gaming performance than most monitors.

The main advantage of this screen is the OLED panel, as it can display perfect blacks without blooming around shiny objects. It features wide viewing angles, so the image remains accurate no matter where you sit. In terms of gaming features, it has a 120 Hz panel with HDMI 2.1 inputs, allowing you to play 4k games at up to 120 fps in full RGB. Motion feels very smooth thanks to its near-instant response time and has low input lag for a responsive gaming experience.

If you plan to use it as a PC monitor, be aware that there is a risk of permanent burnout. This can be a problem with constant exposure to the same static screens all the time, like a taskbar in a desktop user interface. However, we don't expect this to be an issue for those of you who watch varied content, especially if you're going to be using it for PS5 games. If that doesn't worry you, it's one of the best monitors for PS5.

Best Budget Monitor for PS5: Acer Nitro XF243Y Pbmiiprx

Acer Nitro XF243Y Pbmiiprx SEE 8,6 Games

Size 24" Resolution 1920 x 1080 Max refresh rate  165 Hz pixel type  IPS Variable refresh rate  FreeSync

The Acer Nitro XF243Y Pbmiiprx is the best PS5 monitor in the budget category we've tested. It is a compact model with a 24-inch screen and 1080p resolution.

It doesn't have the highest pixel density or resolution, but the image quality is still good, with full sRGB coverage and excellent precision out of the box. The stand allows for many ergonomic adjustments and its wide viewing angles make it great for sharing content.

Motion handling is amazing, thanks to its high refresh rate and exceptional response time. It supports variable refresh rate technology to reduce screen tearing, although you'll still have to wait for a firmware update on the PS5 as they haven't implemented it yet.

Input lag is low for a responsive gaming experience. If you want to use it in a well-lit room, it has good reflection handling and is bright enough to combat glare.

As expected from a budget monitor, it can't display a wide color gamut, doesn't have a local dimming feature, and doesn't look very bright in HDR, resulting in a pretty mediocre HDR experience. There are no USB ports, but you do get a pair of built-in speakers.

You can add a virtual cross or frame rate indicator and you can control all the monitor settings through the software so you don't have to fiddle with the physical controls. Overall it's a simple but excellent gaming monitor that's easy to put away.

Size 27" Resolution 3840 x 2160 Max refresh rate  60 Hz pixel type  IPS Variable refresh rate  FreeSync

If you want a 4k option in the budget category, take a look at the Dell S2721QS. It has a much lower maximum refresh rate than the Acer Nitro XF243Y Pbmiiprx, but that's not a problem because it has HDMI 2.0 inputs, so you can't play 4k games with a higher refresh rate anyway.

The larger screen and higher resolution also help to deliver a more immersive gaming experience.

It has good reflection handling and great maximum brightness, which means visibility won't be an issue in most well-lit rooms.

It also has wide viewing angles and good ergonomics, so it's easy to share your screen with someone else. Unfortunately, it's a bit limited in extra features as it doesn't have a USB hub, but it does have Picture-in-Picture and Picture-by-Picture modes.

If you're on a budget and want the best display for PS5, you should be happy with the Acer's 1080p resolution and higher refresh rate, but if you prefer a 4k resolution then take a look at the Dell, which is still one of the best 4k gaming monitors for ps5.

Notable Mentions

  • LG 27GP950-B: The LG 27GP950-B is an impressive 4k gaming monitor with full-bandwidth HDMI 2.1 ports, but it costs more than the M28U and isn't worth the price difference.

  • Gigabyte AORUS FV43U: The Gigabyte AORUS FV43U is a large monitor with an LED panel, so it doesn't risk permanent burn-in like the LG C1, but it does have input lag and response time issues at 60 Hz, which means it's not quite thus landing among the best PS5 gaming monitors.
  • Samsung Odyssey G7 S28AG70: The Samsung Odyssey G7 S28AG70 is an excellent 4k gaming monitor with a 28-inch screen like the Gigabyte M28U, but there is a bug that limits the PS4's 5k gaming to 60Hz.
