Choosing the best FIFA 22 Ultimate Team formation can take a lot of time, so we've put together the best formations for each style.

Choosing the right formation in FIFA 22 Ultimate Team can be the difference between winning and losing, so we've put together a guide to the best half-formations, as well as how to make an All-Out Attack or Park the Bus.

Building a dream Ultimate Team full of superstars is one of the joys of FIFA 22, but it can go wrong quickly if it doesn't work well in the game.

While there are plenty of in-depth tactics and instructions to tinker with, it often comes down to finding the formation that makes the most of your players and fits your type of football.

We have gathered the five best formations of the FIFA 22 Ultimate Team, as well as the best ultra attack and defense settings for when games get intense.

    Best FIFA 22 formations

    4-3-2-1

Wings are the secret weapon in this year's game, thanks to their ability to take down past defenders and create valuable space.

But many formations that include wingers can often cause the front three to be too far apart, meaning it's difficult to link them in any meaningful way.

With 4-3-2-1, forwards play a lot narrower as both right and left strikers, so it's much easier for them to create chances for each other.

In this setup, the main striker drops a little deeper and brings your other forwards into the game, so make sure you pick a target man with a decent pass.

    4-4-2

A faithful old man for football fans, the EA made the 4-4-2 one of the strongest formations in FIFA 22 once again.

This year's game, more than ever, is about patient building game. The strength of this setup is that it always provides an option to pass on offense without leaving the backline exposed.

The two forwards give the wingers more to aim for when they get into a crossing position, while the midfielders can still track and help.

One downside, however, is the strain this places on your two central midfielders, so it's best to opt for players with impressive stamina.

    3-1-4-2

Three-back formations have become a staple of modern football and FIFA 22 has finally reflected that. The lack of full-backs can be unpleasant for some players, but it can be highly effective in all areas of the pitch.

CDM's recoil is perfect for cleaning up counterattacks, while the other central players can help overload the defence.

It can also be used as a defensive formation, making wing players stay and help the three centre-backs.

The only negative here is that wide men are asked to work up and down the line, so it's worth having more options in the bank.

While there's no doubt that wingers can make a big difference if you're not a player who often resorts to crosses, opting for a tight formation might be right for you.

The 4-3-1-2 is suitable for those who love to play with ball possession in midfield and wait for a series of bombings from their two forwards.

The inclusion of a CAM is vital here as they can be the ones to break through the lines and unlock tight defenses with a deadly pass.

The lack of width can cause problems, which can only be resolved by pushing the full-backs even higher, but this can leave the defense exposed.

    4-2-3-1 Narrow

As mentioned earlier, not playing wingers can limit your attacking options and put pressure on your rear. Fortunately, with 4-2-3-1 Narrow, you can have the best of both.

Having three CAMs means your offense gets closer, making it much easier to execute those quick and complex passes to break teams.

But if you start out in a wing formation and switch to that in-game, you'll also have the blistering pace where you need it.

Adopt both midfielders, and this is potentially the most balanced formation in FIFA 22 right now.

    Best ultra attack formation

Sometimes you need to change your approach and throw caution to the wind, especially if you are in dire need of a goal.

In this case, we suggest making your ultra-attack formation 4-2-4 , so you can overload the box.

This gives you minimal defensive coverage, but four attacking players, as well as midfielders who can push up, mean you have the best chance of scoring a late goal.

For maximum effectiveness, be sure to adjust the instructions so that everyone participates in the attack.

    Best ultra-defensive formation

Likewise, you occasionally need to park the bus and produce a result with a well-organized defense – partially if you're holding the lead.

In these scenarios, switch to a 5-3-2 formation to give yourself as much defensive coverage as possible.

By having the five defenders and the three midfielders on “stay back while attacking”, you create an impenetrable wall around the penalty area. Just watch out for thin shots from outside the area.

You'll also want to get at least one of your forwards forward to offer an exit when you win the ball back.

That was our guide to the best formations in FIFA 22 Ultimate. We will update this guide throughout the year as new settings begin to dominate the meta.
